Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny Member Scores Big!

Brayden Murray successfully downed a beautiful 8-point buck during the recent archery season. With one shot from his crossbow, Brayden brought down the big stag. Near dark on November 16, the big buck appeared while Brayden and his friend, Josh, were hunting near Corsica, PA. The rest is history.

SADIE & HER RINGNECKS

Sadie and her owner, handler, and Founding Member of the Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny, Bill Moreland, bagged the two ringneck pheasant cockbirds (shown above) in the Alabama Spawn Area.
Sadie is a Boykin Spaniel.

The Boykin Spaniel is a medium-sized breed of dog, a Spaniel bred for hunting wild turkeys and ducks in the Wateree River Swamp of South Carolina. It is the state dog of South Carolina, where it was discovered and further developed by hunters in the 1900s.

The Boykin Spaniel is a tough, energetic, and enthusiastic hunting dog, yet gentle and contented in the home. An affectionate and fiercely loyal personality is a hallmark of the breed, and Boykins make wonderful family pets. They thrive on companionship, enjoying the company of children and other dogs.

The Boykin Spaniel was recognized as a breed by the AKC in 2009.

The Boykin Spaniel is avid, eager, merry, and trainable. This mellow housedog and tenacious bird dog was once South Carolina's best-kept secret. Boykins are medium-sized spaniels, larger and rangier than Cockers but more compact than Springers. The breed's hallmark is a beautiful solid-brown coat. Colors range from a rich liver to luscious chocolate. The large, feathery ears hang close to the cheeks, setting off an expression of soulful intelligence. Bred to work in the lakes and swamps of their native South Carolina, web-toed Boykins can swim like seals. For years, Boykins were known only to hunters of Carolina waterfowl and wild turkey. But lately, the wider world has discovered that the Boykin is as delightful at home as he is eager at the lake. 'They are very, very sweet dogs to have around the family,' a longtime owner says, 'but an absolute tiger in the field.

ANOTHER HUNT IN MAINE.

 ANOTHER HUNT IN MAINE

10-24-2022 TO 10-28-2022

Probably the last one for the High HareMan.

The beagles get a chance to get some sun in Connecticut.
A rest stop in Connecticut.

Andy (R) and I are outside our favorite eatery in Massachusetts.
Psyco Sid is a great traveler.

Of course, a stop at Cabela's in Maine.
Entering New Hampshire.
Entering Maine. It does feel like coming home.
Picked up Joe at the Portland (Me) Jetport.
Joe was now the driver.
Getting the beagles settled in the kennels at the Pine Grove Lodge.

Collaring up beagles and getting ready to hunt. It turned out to be a damp day.

A damp day. Getting ready to hunt.

Father and son enjoyed a wonderful week together, especially Dad.

This is what I did best, eat.
tAKE NOTICE OF WHAT IT SAYS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS SIGN.
"NOTICE: GPS UNRELIABLE IN THIS AREA. DO NOT USE GPS FOR NAVIGATION. IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING GPS DIRECTIONS TURN AROUND AND TAKE THE PAVED ROAD."

Collaring up Music. Every day the same thing. Garmin 200i worked great, on most days.
Andy in some of Maine's rocky terrain. Actually, it's a rock quarry. A snowshoe hare ran through the quarry. The hounds couldn't track it in this terrain.

Music in the rocks having a hard time.

A beautiful beagle named Music.

This small snowshoe hare ran under the tailgate Brenda and I was sitting on and around Andy's truck where Brenda snapped this picture of the little hare taking a leak.
The three hunters enjoyed a great week. The five (5) day hunt went by too fast.
We had a couple damp days but mostly sunny and beautiful weather.

The little hare ran through the quarry. The beagles had no idea where it went.
