SIGN MISAPPROPRIATED

BIG WOODS HARE HUNTERS OF THE ALLEGHENY

SIGN

MISAPPROPRIATED

In late 2019 several hard working members of the Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny started a habitat reclamation project on land owned by Seneca Resources Company

The project was conducted in cooperation and with the assistance of Seneca Resources Company and their Forester.

The project's stated primary mission was to "improve nesting and escape cover" for all small mammals including eastern cottontail rabbits.

A professionally produced metal sign was placed on a permanent 4"X4" treated post with the consent and authorization of the land owner. The object of the sign was to inform passersby of what was happening at the site, who was doing the work and that it was being accomplished with the permission and cooperation of the land owner. Another lesser objective was to show that Seneca Resources Company was interested in conservation.

The sign made it through 2 winters, however, now our sign has  mysteriously disappeared.

The missing sign would have no value to anyone except to the members of the Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny.

The metal sign was not cheaply made.

The Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny are offering a reward for the safe return of the sign. The High HareMan will match the reward.
The Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators. No formal report has been made to the Pennsylvania State Police at this time but it will happen. -HH
Anyone having information may private message us @ https://www.facebook.com/BigWoodsHareHunters/
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
This is how our sign looked.

This is what the sign said.

This is what the empty sign post looks like at the present. (2022)

END OF AN ERA

 END OF AN ERA

My old buddy passed away today. I

was there the day he was born and

I was there today. He was loyal and

honest. He never lied and he

always, without fail, gave THE best

advice. He and I spent many hours,

days, weeks and months and years

together in the wilds of the

 Allegheny and the mountains of

 Maine. He seldom complained

although the last few months were hard on him.

I'm grateful he didn't suffer and he

 wasn't sick. I'm glad he didn't

suffer through a long cold winter

just to go in the spring.

His name, Kipper. Little Toby Creek Kipper to be exact.

He lived 14 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Kipper was loyal to the end.

He love me and I loved him back.

We will surely miss him around here.

Kipper was a big beagle with a big voice. There was no mistaking his tongue on a cottontail rabbit or snowshoe hare. Everyone loved his big bold voice.

Kipper was gentle as gentle can be. I never heard him say a cross word.

He had what most beaglers would call a "cold nose". Probably a little too cold. He had a difficult time getting started in his career as a rabbit dog. As a puppy and teenager he would chase just about anything with a scent including deer. With time he learned and I learned. He could work up a scent from the coldest of tracks. When I learned he soon learned. When I heard him working and working a scent and getting further and further away with the remainder of the pack not joining in I knew and correction cured his vices. In his peak when Kipper spoke everybody listened and it wouldn't be long before a rabbit or hare would be up.

He was loyal protector. We unloaded a pack of hounds one morning in the dark on top of a coyote. A dog fight commenced immediately. Kipper was the only hound with any wounds. He had protected his harem. On another day a friend with his pack was late to the party. When the friends beagles approached Brenda, Kipper was ready to stand fast to protect her. I witnessed this on numerous occasions.

He possessed great desire and brains to go along. He never gave up or gave in on a hunt. On his finale outing Kipper was in the brush hunting and tonguing and trying although he couldn't move too fast. His nose never quit but his body did.

Kipper in the big Woods.

In Maine.

On a picture shoot modeling a good use for a bandana.

He smells the roses.

In the laurel.

CLARION COUNTY SPORTSMEN FOR YOUTH

BIG WOODS HARE HUNTERS of the ALLEGHENY

HONORED BY

CLARION COUNTY SPORTSMEN for YOUTH

The Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny Foundation is honored to have received acknowledgement for the minor part we play in support of our Clarion County youth.

Our youth are our legacy.

Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth shall promote the educational and instructional expansion of youth in outdoor activities and the preservation of natural resources. We provide instruction and education in the area of firearms, fishing, hunting and archery and further instill in youth an appreciation of the natural resources of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We currently operate the largest Youth Field Day in the state of Pennsylvania with over 450 kids participating in 15 activity stations, in a one-day event in July, which is held annually.

As Friends of NRA celebrates their 30th anniversary this year, Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth will also be celebrating their 30th year of hosting Pennsylvania’s largest youth field day this August 7. Each year the Clarion County Youth Field Day has 450 youth attendees between the ages of 8 and 14 and offers at least 15 different activity stations. Attendees get to try their hand at archery, shotgun, crossbow, duck and turkey calling, fishing, firearm safety, and so much more!

Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth operates Clarion County Youth Field Day with a board of 13 directors, over 100 volunteers for the day’s event, and many sponsors. Pennsylvania Friends of NRA and Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth have a history of working together, and Pennsylvania Friends of NRA is proud to support the event year after year. In total, the Clarion County Youth Field Day has been awarded just over just over $8,400 through NRA Foundation grants.

Because the Clarion County Youth Field Day is so well attended, there is a time limit for each station to ensure everyone has the chance to try each activity. The event is popular enough that event registration typically fills up within an hour once it opens. Several youth who aged out of the program even come back to volunteer so they can still be involved.

Not only do children get to participate in all types of outdoor activities, but each attendee receives a shirt and hat, families are served lunch, and at the end of the day over 100 firearms and other prizes are given away. Every youth goes home with at least a door prize and a wealth of outdoor education.

Friends of NRA is proud to support and encourage youth events such as the Clarion County Youth Field Day. It is critical to invest in youth to preserve the future of the shooting sports. Friends of NRA is the fundraising arm of The NRA Foundation, and raises funds for NRA Foundation grants to qualified programs. The NRA Foundation has awarded over $445 million in grant funding since their establishment in 1990. Andy Hoover with his beagle, Emma, and a trophy snowshoe hare.

Longtime snowshoe hare hunter and outdoorsman, Andy Hoover of Shippenville, PA, has been discovered on the cover of the national niche magazine.

Andy was photographed following a successful kill while hunting snowshoe hare on a rocky mountain top in the central mountains of Maine in late October 2021.

As a charter member of The Big Woods Hare Hunters of the Allegheny he has led his beagles for snowshoe hare across the Northeastern United States from Pennsylvania to the Tug Hill Plateau and the Adirondacks of New York State to the Central Mountains of Maine.

A veteran rabbit and hare hunter, Andy, has been hunting with beagles for almost 50 years.

Falling in love with Maine, Andy has enjoyed many adventures in the mountains of Maine over more than 20 years. Many of those years he has visited Maine in both fall and winter.

While hunting the mountains of Central Maine in winter, Andy has experienced real winter conditions far above what most of us are accustomed to in Pennsylvania.

Andy currently campaigns 3 beagles named Teagun, Emma and Sadie.

Andy is also an avid fisherman fishing the many lakes of Maine.

Andy Hoover is a true outdoorsman, but more than that, he is a true Maine Outdoorsman.

The complete story of Andy's adventure can be found in the pages of
THE RABBIT HUNTER.

The article will be shared on this blog at a later date.
